Carl Pickens is the founder and director of One Earth Matters. He has a
Degree in Landscape Architecture from Lincoln University (1991-1994)
and a Certificate in Organic Horticulture from Christchurch Polytechnic
(2004), where he studied under the mentorship of Holger Kahl.
Carl ran a successful Landscape Architecture practice in Auckland for 6
years prior to moving to Christchurch, and worked as a Landscape
Contractor in London and Switzerland for 12 months early in his career.
He managed 5 acres of biodynamic vegetable production at Hohepa Farm
Canterbury in 2005 and 2006, before establishing One Earth Matters.
One Earth Matters represents the culmination of 12 years of work by
Carl towards establishing a design practice founded on sustainable
principles. He now brings this wealth of experience to every project,
enabling him to guide clients on the visual effect, true
sustainability, and practicality of all design and material choices.
Carl sees One Earth Matters creating gardens that raise environmental
awareness, and make a real contribution to a greener planet.
